Computer HouseCall provides in-home personal computer assistance services that YOU choose so that we can work together to have your computer working the way YOU think it should.

Computer HouseCall is based in Midland, Michigan, but services can be provided to anyone almost anywhere in the area.  I will come to you--you will not need to unplug everything to take your computer into someone's shop.

Your first visit from Computer HouseCall is comprehensive.  During this visit I will learn a few things about you and what you want your computer to do.  You will have an opportunity to tell me what's not working right for you.  At that point we will begin the process of drawing up a suitable work plan to set things right.

**If the best work plan should involve my taking your computer home with me to work on, I now have a "loaner" laptop computer I can leave with you until yours is working again.**

Call Computer HouseCall anytime at (989) 839-4909.  Be sure to leave a short message, with your name, phone number, and a good time to call back, if I am out.  I will be sure to call you as soon as I can.

You can also send me an e-mail:  jonathan@mycomputerhousecall.com

Again, I will always come to your home to help you.  I am especially good at helping senior citizens learn more about their computers and how to use them safely and effectively.

HELPFUL TIP:  Many people are interested in knowing more about Microsoft's® new operating system, Windows 7®.  Microsoft® (and the rest of us) are hoping that this new system will fix the things that didn't work well in Vista® and improve operating system performance for every PC/Windows® user.  Right now I am checking out the "Beta", or pre- release version of Windows 7®, and I will post reports here about what I find that works better and what doesn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While learning about the intricacies and frustrations of Windows® Vista®, I've come across a very useful help site.  You can visit "Annoyances Dot Org" at http://www.annoyances.org and find lots of helpul information about a very wide variety of issues.  Obviously, I'd prefer to have you call me with your particular problem, but my philosophy of work and life is that almost anyone can figure anything out given some time, some research, and some willingness to make occasional mistakes (Corollary: very few mistakes are truly fatal).  It's often useful and even necessary to have someone knowledgeable fix a problem quickly, but we usually feel pretty good when we've had an "Ah ha!" moment  when figuring something out for ourselves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HELPFUL TIP:  There are a multitude of things you can do yourself to improve your computer's performance and "make it your own" by learning to edit your Windows registry with Windows' "regedit" utility.  Many users think this is beyond their skill level because of all the warnings they see about the hazards of getting that deep into the guts of their machines.  But some common sense and a little homework can go a long way here:  find out exactly where in the registry you need to be to do something, understand exactly what you want to do and how to do it, and always, always back up the registry (or part of it) before making any changes.  There are countless tips for doing this sort of thing on the Web and in library books.  Even Microsoft's help documents will tell you how to do some kinds of things, even as they're issuing dire warnings suggesting that you probably shouldn't.  But always remember:  it's YOUR COMPUTER.  The folks who made it and the folks who sold it to you certainly have helpful advice to offer, but they aren't the ones to decide what you are and aren't capable of doing for yourself.  That's your call.  If you have some interest and some time, you can learn to do things you perhaps thought only your teenagers knew how to do.
